Renal medicine is one of the most challenging sub-specialties of medicine. Not all junior doctors will have the opportunity to work in a renal unit and even if they do they feel out of their depth. Nephrological problems can present anywhere. These patients usually have co-morbidities and associated higher mortality making their management even more challenging and you need to get it right the first time.
